Rotisserie
Rotisserie is a style of cooking wherein large joints of meat or usually the whole part of the animal is placed in a long solid rod and cooked over a fire in a fireplace or roasted in an oven. In order to cook evenly, the person that is responsible for the cooking must rotate the long rod continuously. The animal will be then roasted in its own juices making the outside part crunchy and the inside moist and flavorful. This method is done to cook animals like chicken, pigs, goat and many more.

Probably, the concept of rotisserie has been born shortly after the man learned on how to harness fire. Because of lack of equipment and cookware in the early times, people hunt their foods and put them in a stick to roast over a fire. Although the basic concept hasn’t been changed in this period, there are lots of improvements that made which include the equipment used and the style of cooking.
In early times, people used to rotate the stick with their hands to cook the roast evenly. But today, most equipment contains a motor which is the one responsible for rotating the rod. By this, the person won’t be able to exert too much effort in order to have a delicious spit meal. Although the kind of fire that is used in the early times is still practiced in today’s generation, such as those that are going in a camping trips, different heat sources have been developed along with the improvement of cooking devices. The heat source can be electric, gas or charcoal.
Cooking on a skewer makes the meat become tender and juicy inside because the meat is roasted in the indirect heat. It slowly cooks the meat from outside to inside thus, preventing it to be burnt but instead, creates an evenly brown and crunchy outside. Meats prepared on a rotisserie also contain lesser fat as the natural fat drips off during the cooking process. Today, many restaurants and food stalls are selling skewer meats as the process is only easy. All you need to do is place the meat on the skewer, run the motor and wait until the internal temperature of the meat reaches the proper temperature. Some rotisseries also have timers which you can set, so you can leave and get back when the meal is ready.
Rotisseries can come in either horizontal or vertical models. Many manufacturers offer rotisseries and sell them on different prices, all depending on the size and brand of the product. You can buy one at less than $100 and enjoy roasting your own meat at home. Or if you opt for commercial usage where you can cook up to 50 or more birds at the same time, you can buy larger ones that can cost up to thousands. If you want to shop for a rotisserie, look for home kitchen stores, retail shops, cookware suppliers, specialty grilling shops and/or through online distributors and shops.
